the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse Visitor's Center
for the history of the most recognizable lightouse
in Maine.
Not
surprisingly, Lubec offers more conservation areas
and preserves. Discover the Mowry
Beach Conservation Area -- walk on the beach
or walk the wheel chair accessible trail and boardwalk
owned by the Quoddy Regional Land Trust. Along the
Bold Coast from Lubec to Cutler, the Maine Coast
Heritage Trust offers Boot
Head Preserve, Hamilton
Cove Preserve, and Western
Head Preserve. All three provide excellent
hiking and wildlife watching opportunities, plus
spectacular scenery.
Lubec
(Loo-BEC) is nestled on a peninsula
providing opportunities to get out on the sea and
experience the fresh, salt air. Eagles, porpoise
and more make this area their home. Stroll along
the working waterfront and enjoy the sunrise, sunset
and fishermen's boats as they bring in the Catch
Of The Day. Lighthouse tours by sea, whale and seal
watching are offered by local businesses.
With
so much to see and do, music lovers will not feel
left out. Experience the joy of discovering Lubec's
Summer Keys' concerts and workshops. Every Wednesday,
join picknickers at the Lubec bandstand for an evening
of good, old time music and barbeque among friends.
Finally,
no trip to Lubec would be complete without a short
and picturesque trip across the Narrows on the FDR
Memorial Bridge to Campobello Island, NB. Explore
two lighthouses--Head Harbour Lighthouse (also known
as East Quoddy Head) and Mulholland Light. Visit
Campobello FDR International Park.
