This
is a place of peace, quiet, and great natural beauty.
Also, Washington County is the only coastal New England
county that met the federal air pollution standards for
ozone, according to information published by the US Environmental
Protection Agency in April 2004.
The
name "Cobscook" comes from the Indian word meaning
"boiling tides." Cobscook Bay is part of
the Bay of Fundy, well known for its extreme tides.

We exist to promote our
area and our members. Our goal is to promote an increasingly
effective business climate that sustains our members and
our natural environment. The Chamber belongs to the Maine
State Chamber’s Alliance of Maine Chambers and to the Maine
Tourism Association.
The Cobscook Bay Area is
known in the birding community as an excellent bird watching
location. In recognition, this Chamber and other organizations
sponsor the Down
East Spring Birding Festival over the Memorial Day Weekend.
The first annual festival took place in 2004. Altogether
during the past four festivals, participants have found
208 different birds. Planning has begun for the sixth
Annual festival, May 2009
